Requirements

Web Browser

One of the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 6.0
  • Internet Explorer 7.0
  • Mozilla Firefox 2.0
  • Opera 9.23
  • Apple Safari 3.0 or later

Other browser types/versions may work with the player but only the above have been tested.

Adobe Flash

The Fliqz Flash components require Version 9.0.115 or later.

How do I display the player on my page?

You need to place an embed code on your page, such as the one shown below.

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000"
codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,115,0"
id="player" width="450" height="392">
<param name="movie" value="http://applications.fliqz.com/de87e247281bb8172b26278432fa2ce5.swf" />
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" />
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" />
<embed name="player" src="http://applications.fliqz.com/de87e247281bb8172b26278432fa2ce5.swf"
width="450" height="392" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="always"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer">
</embed>
</object>

The embed code is best retrieved from your Control Panel page. However, you can also retrieve the embed code from the Management API.

What is EOLAS?

Eolas (an acronym for "Embedded Objects Linked Across Systems")

When you embed an object into Internet Explorer or the Windows version of Opera, you are required to select the object before you can select any of the controls in the object (effectively selecting the object twice).

This is a modification apparently introduced by Microsoft and others to sidestep a patent held by EOLAS.

SWF Object

We recommend that you use the SWFObject JavaScript library.

SWFObject provides an infrastructure for embedding flash that ensures that the flash component will function across all browser types and presents the user with alternate content if they do not have flash installed. It can also prompt users to install flash if they do not have it installed or their flash version is older than the version required by the embedded flash component.

Dimensions

What are the default dimensions?

Dimensions of all standard players for a given size (small, medium, or large) are the same.

All dimensions are in pixels
Type Total Size Viewable Area Logo Watermark
Large 650 x 566 650 x 488 289 x 217 144 x 72
Medium (Standard Size) 450 x 392 450 x 338 200 x 150 100 x 50
Small 350 x 305 350 x 263 156 x 117 78 x 39
Description Overall player dimensions, including viewable area and bottom control bar Viewable area of the video Recommended logo dimensions Recommended watermark dimensions. PNG format with a 50% opacity

How do I resize my player?

Please contact Fliqz Support at mailto:support@fliqz.com for assistance in changing the dimensions of your player. The result will be reflected in the embed code that you retrieve from the Fliqz Control Panel.

Player dimensions can be altered by simply editing your embed code to change the width and height of the player. However, the embed codes delivered from Fliqz will not be altered unless you contact Fliqz to have them changed.

Altering the player dimensions can distort the assets that are revealed in the player. If the aspect ratio (relationship between width and height) is different than the size specified in the embed code supplied by Fliqz, you could see your content stretched in one direction or the other.

Gold and Silver Players

Gold and Silver Players can have logos, watermarks or wallpaper, these too can end up sub-optimal when the player dimensions are changed. We do not offer a means of optimizing graphics for different dimensions on a Silver Player. However, we do optimize your graphics for the player size chosen for a Gold Player.

Player Auto Play/Mute

  • Automute: Through the Control Panel, you can control whether the player volume is muted automatically on display.
  • Autoplay: Through the Control Panel, you can control whether the player plays the media file automatically on display.

Each of these settings can be made for individual videos or for all videos in your account through the control panel.

Account Level Settings

Log On to the Fliqz Site and Click the Control Panel Tab. Click Account Information to bring up your Account Details. In the lower left hand corner of the page you will find an Edit Button. Click the Edit Button to edit the settings for AutoMute and AutoPlay for your account. Save your settings.

Each video you upload will be assigned the AutoMute or AutoPlay settings that are applied for your account at the time the video is uploaded. When you alter the account settings, existing videos retain the settings they had at the time the settings were changed. In other words, altering these settings does not change the AutoMute or Auto Play settings for individual vidoes that already exist.

Changing the AutoMute or AutoPlay Settings for a Video

You can alter the settings for an individual video in your account. Click the Manage Tab in Control Panel. Locate the video you wish to alter in the list. Click the Details button. Click the Edit Button. Alter the settings for AutoMute and/or AutoPlay as desired. Save your settings.

These settings will be used the next time someone plays the video.

Bronze Plan Features

Players associated with Bronze Account Plans are Un-Branded (no logos, watermarks or wallpaper). Unlike the Basic Plan, Bronze Players do not show advertising.

Silver Plan Features

Player Customization

Silver Accounts are setup with a Self Serve Player Configuration tool. This tool provides the ability to upload Graphics that are incorporated into the Player. These graphics include:

  • Wallpaper that appears when the player loads and/or when the video ends.
  • A logo that appears when the player loads and/or when the video ends.
  • A watermark that appears in the lower right hand corner of the player when the player loads and/or while the video plays, and/or when the video ends.

Gold Plan Features

What community features do you offer?

  • Share: An email with a link to the media file is sent to one or more destinations.
  • Permalink: A URL to a page displaying the media file in a player.
  • Embed Code: An embed code that may be placed on a Web site to display your media file in your player.
  • Rating: A rating between 0 and 5.
  • Reporting: Reports the media file for various types of offensive content.

Player Customization

  • Choose from a variety of Player Skins and Skin Colors.
  • Wallpaper that appears when the player loads and/or when the video ends.
  • A logo that appears when the player loads and/or when the video ends.
  • A watermark that appears in the lower right hand corner of the player when the player loads and/or while the video plays, and/or when the video ends.

You can customize the following:

  • The share email
  • The permalink
  • Status Thumbs: You may choose to display different thumbs depending on the state of the media files. The thumbs are in JPG or (for animated thumbs) Adobe SWF formats. States that display special thumbs include:
    • Available without preview
    • Encoding
    • Broken (could not encode)
    • Deleted
    • Purged
    • Not yet approved
    • Disapproved
    • Unknown
    • Not Authorized (displayed if your media file is played in a player that is not yours).
    • Audio Only files

Please contact Fliqz Customer Service to discuss how to customize these items.

Can I link back to the page hosting the media file regardless of how many times a file is shared?

Yes. We call this a sticky permalink.

What happens if I rate a file more than once?

If a rating is repeated within the same browser session, then the new rating replaces the previous rating. To rate more than once requires a user to open a browser, rate the media file, close the browser, then repeat.

Other Questions

My player displays in Firefox but not Microsoft Internet Explorer. Why?

There are two things to check:

  1. The version of Adobe Flash installed in Microsoft Internet Explorer. This may be different from the version installed in Firefox. It is recommended that you install the latest version of Adobe Flash in both cases.
  2. The player code returned from the Fliqz Control Panel contains both object and and embed tags. The object tag is used by Microsoft Internet Explorer and the embed tag is used by Firefox. This error may suggest that the object tag is either missing or invalid. Refer to the code returned by your Control Panel Page to identify the correct combined object/embed tag.
